Lead developer Tyler Olmstead will release v128 on Friday evening, March 15th, 2019. Changes include:

  1. New ellipsis icon on Services
  2. Sales Tax can be toggled by Service line item
  3. Other areas touched by itemized sales tax

#1 - New ellipsis icon on Services

Each RO service has a menu of options available from an icon in the bottom RH corner.  That icon used to be a blue wrench.  Now it is a standard ellipsis icon.

In edit mode, the line items for labor, parts, sublet, and haz/fees now include an ellipsis icon, on the far right, for a menu that contains both the “delete” action and toggling sales taxability.

#2 - Sales Tax can be toggled by Service line item

Version 128 includes the much anticipated release of sales tax control by individual service line item.  This control is extended to recommendations, canned jobs and past services as well.

By default, labor, parts, sublet, and haz/fees will be included in tax calculations according to their settings on the RO Info page.

If you wish to exclude an individual item from getting taxed, select the menu (ellipsis icon) on the item row and choose “Do not tax”.  An untaxed icon will appear to the right of the price, on the item row, to indicate this setting, and the sales tax calculation will update automatically on the bottom of the RO page.

To reset the taxation, visit the item menu again and choose “Include in tax”.  The untaxed icon will disappear and the sales tax on the RO will be recalculated with the item included.

This same process is used to change taxation on items on recommendations and canned jobs.

When a customer approves a recommendation (current or past) with one or more untaxed items, and you promote the recommendation to a repair order, the resulting service will maintain the untaxed item settings from the recommendation.  The untaxed icon(s) will appear on the item(s) as usual.

When you copy a past service onto a new RO (as a service or a recommendation) and that past service had one or more untaxed items, the resulting service (or recommendation) will maintain the untaxed item settings from the past repair order.  The untaxed icon(s) will appear on the item(s) as usual.

When you set one or many items as untaxed on a canned job, and you copy that canned job onto a new RO (as a service or recommendation), the resulting service (or recommendation) will maintain the untaxed item settings from the canned job.  The untaxed icon(s) will appear on the item(s) as usual.

You can always revert the sales tax setting on any individual item, on any new RO, if the context for its being untaxed no longer applies.

#3 - Other areas touched by itemized sales tax

The updated sales tax calculation (that now considers individual line item exceptions) carries through to the following related features:

  • Invoice page Closed Sales metrics and Invoices list
  • Closed Sales export
  • Sales Tax export
  • Accounts Receivable page
  • Accounts Receivable export
  • Customer total spend metrics
  • API
  • Accounting integrations (both Quickbooks Online and Accounting Link)
  • RO View Financials modal
  • RO PDF (print view)

Note that the RO PDF does not show the untaxed icon by item.  However the sales tax and grand total calculations are consistent with those on the RO webpage.

Note also that the “Grand Total + Approvals” calculation (and the “Approved Grand Total” value shown to the customer) do not currently consider untaxed line items.  The price displayed will include sales tax for all items per the RO Info page.  We will follow up with this on a subsequent release.  That said, the end result (once the recommendation is promoted) will be a grand total with a lower price than what is shown (because it will have less sales tax).

This concludes Release Notes for Version 128.  Enjoy!
